If you are a student beginning their college application process, we recommend getting professional portraits or headshots taken to go with them. Depending on your major, these photographs can be as casual or formal as you prefer. For instance, art students applying to majors such as drama and film are usually asked to submit professional portraits in a portfolio. However, even business or science students can benefit greatly from such a photo shoot.
If you’re on the fence about your decision, here are some benefits of submitting professional headshots with your college applications.
Gives a Great First Impression
First off, having a professional photo with your college application makes a great first impression on the admission committee. What you’re wearing in your photo and your smile; all of it conveys a bit of your personality to the institution before you even go there. If the photo you send them doesn’t feature you at your best or if it is a poorly taken camera shot, it will send the wrong message about you from the get go. However, if the shot has been taken by a professional who knows the ins and outs of headshot photography, you will come off looking happy and confident!
Makes You Appear Serious
All good institutes inducting students are looking for someone who will take their education seriously. If you enclose a professional looking headshot in your application instead of a poorly taken one, there is a better chance of you coming off looking intelligent and dedicated to your studies. This goes especially for those looking to enter the fields of film, media sciences, photography, acting, or any other artsy department.
Boosts Your Confidence
Sending applications to colleges is a nerve racking process. You fret every time you send your application somewhere and wonder if you did everything right. And when it’s time for the rejection or acceptance letter to arrive, you’re already far too anxious to even consider things might go your way.
A professional looking headshot does the job of boosting your confidence when you’re sending in applications. If you show the world yourself through a professional’s eye, you will be a whole lot more confident in your ability to succeed. Whether you end up getting into Harvard or not, you will know that you put your best foot forward and did everything there was to be done!
There are a number of tips you can easily follow for a great college application photograph. All you need to do is book a photographer who will hear you out and execute your ideas to perfection.

Frank Smith - Keep in mind that if you are applying to Harvard or any other "prestigious" university - hire a dark skinned black person to appear in your photo - especially if you are of asian ancestry. This will soon be "critical" based on recent Supreme Court decisions.
