When you are asked to provide a photo for residency applications, it needs to be professional. The residency programs use the photos for identification purposes when you interview, as well as a visual reminder of who you are when they are composing their Rank Lists of Applicants. Photos will be uploaded into ERAS by the applicants, and once a photo has been assigned to a program, it cannot be unassigned.

Photo requirements from ERAS:

• Photos must not exceed 2.5 x 3.5 inches in size; the file size cannot exceed 100 KB; and the resolution should be 150 dpi

• Photo must be in color.

• It must show a full front view of the person's head and shoulders, with full face centered in the middle of the photograph.

• It must have a plain white or light-colored background. Dark colored backgrounds do not display very well in the program's software. In addition, OSA recommendations:

Wear professional business attire—you are applying for a job. Doug Burke Photography will do an excellent quality photo. The program directors expect to see you dressed in professional business attire, similar to what you will be wearing on your residency interviews, and they expect the photo to be of professional quality - a clear image, not blurred, grainy or shiny, or with the pixels visible. The program directors tell us they can tell when a picture of an applicant has been cut out of a larger picture or cropped to disguise the fact that a person is wearing non-professional attire. They do not want to see an informal picture. We recommend against using photos from passport photo shops or mall booths -- the finish on these photos tend to be grainy, glossy, and/or blurry, as well as being smaller than the recommended size.
